Far from the cities of men, beyond the passes and snowfields of the high plateau, the mountains of Tibet hold valleys that rarely appear on maps. Among those hidden folds of the earth is a place spoken of in fragments of legend.

Shangri-La. Not the fantasy of travellers and novels, but something older. Beneath the mountain lies a cavern vast enough to hold its own sky. Stone walls rise into darkness, their surfaces veined with crystal that catches the faintest light and carries it across the chamber like reflections on water.

At the centre of this underground garden stands a formation unlike any other: A great crystal column grows from the floor of the cavern, clear and luminous, piercing the rock until its upper point emerges through the roof far above.

From the surface it appears as a solitary shard of stone pushing into the open air. Below, in the silent cavern beneath the mountain, its true form can be seen. Around the base of the crystal the ground has formed a natural garden of smaller formations — clusters of translucent pillars rising from the earth like frozen plants of glass.
